If they are to be castrated rams usually have a rubber ring applied to the neck of the scrotum in the first couple of days of life. However we can castrate surgically or with burdizzos lambs that are missed or pet rams that you do not want to breed from. The age and temperament of the ram dictates weather this is done under local anaesthesia alone or in conjunction with sedation or general anaesthesia.
